U.S. Rep. criticizes Bush backdoor preemptions

U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), one of the leading consumer advocates in the Congress, has sent President Bush and the CPSC Chairman letters sharply critical of the recent CPSC action purporting to preempt state consumer rights. The letter to the President looks at the CPSC action as part of a broader pattern of agency actions that raise "the possibility that the Administration is engaged in a backdoor effort to limit consumers' access to the court system."
