CALPIRG has released a new report documenting that companies are failing to provide consumers with details required by state law about their uses and sharing of non-public personal information. This information, which includes Social Security Numbers, enables identity theft if it falls into the wrong hands. California's consumers are "Still in the Dark" when it comes to who has access to their personal information [...]Only about one-third (33 percent) of survey participants reported receiving a response consistent with the terms of the "Shine the Light" law.
