Solicitor General sort of supports California privacy law
The U.S. Solicitor General's office has filed a tortured brief urging the Supreme Court not to accept several bank associations' petition to overturn California's financial privacy law. The U.S. takes the longstanding position of federal bank regulators and says it agrees with the bankers' view of the law. That's not good. But it says hat the bankers' case doesn't meet the court's normal standards for review. Here's a story from the San Francisco Chronicle with some details.
