Techies solve problem, blog is back

Sorry, minor technical server burp there for a few days put us back in the way back machine to November 2007. We are back in real time. We hope soon to be upgraded to a more modern platform for the blog that takes and posts comments and all that, too.

Blog glitches due to site maintenance

The blog will be a little funky --missing graphics, some non-working links and maybe even hard to find for a few days while our web team remodels the entire U.S. PIRG site. Should be all fixed Monday, and soon, we also hope to upgrade the software so you all can even post comments, like on other blogs!

U.S. PIRG Video Blog: Air Passengers' Bill of Rights

We're excited to announce the first of our occasional U.S. PIRG video consumer blogs. Episode 1: An interview with Kate Hanni of the Coalition for an Airline Passengers Bill of Rights, who explains what passengers should know about tarmac strandings and what to do if stranded. We go through the items -- from diapers to water purification tablets to emergency phone numbers -- in the coalition's Stranded Passenger Emergency Kit. Click on the Youtube picture to watch the video. (It's a little long, I know, but it's our first! Thanks to my producer/cameraman, U.S. PIRG administrative director Rick Trilsch.)

Blog taking your comments again

Our web-guys have fixed the comment software, so you can post comments. Unfortunately, the comments still must be approved by me, as I need to filter the automated spam that also comes in. So, it make take a few days for your post to appear, and I hope I don't erase real ones by mistake. Trust me, you wouldn't want to see the comment spam.

Finding old entries in this blog

Technical blog entry-- We've upgraded the home page of U.S. PIRG and moved it to a new server. You may notice that the blog is now at www.uspirg.org/html/consumer, although you can get there from the old link www.uspirg.org/consumer (no /html subdirectory). The search engine works fine. You can search the whole blog. But, you may happen to be reading an older entry, and you may find that internal links to other internal entries or uploaded pdf files take you to a "file not found" page. Don't panic! In your browser window at the top of the page, you should be able to manually insert the /html directory between "www.uspirg.org" and "/consumer" (so the link reads http://www.uspirg.org/html/consumer/****) to get where you want to go. Sorry about this. We're trying to figure it out in a way that does not involve me reading all my old entries one at a time.
